Trump Appoints Karoline Leavitt as Youngest Press Secretary in U.S. History

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday, November 15th, that Karoline Leavitt will serve as White House Press Secretary in his upcoming administration. At 27, Leavitt will make history as the youngest person to hold this prestigious role.

Leavitt, who currently serves as a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team, brings a wealth of experience to the position. She previously worked as the press secretary for Trump’s 2024 campaign, showcasing her ability to communicate effectively and defend the president’s message. “Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again,” Trump said in a statement.

Leavitt’s professional career began as communications director for New York Republican Representative Elise Stefanik, a staunch Trump supporter. She later joined the White House Press Office during Trump’s first term. Although she ran for Congress in 2022, winning the Republican primary before losing to Democratic incumbent Rep. Chris Pappas, Leavitt’s reputation as a strong supporter of the president grew. She is well-known for her incisive remarks and forceful defense of Trump, and she has proven to be an effective speaker in televised interviews.

Neil Levesque, her former mentor at Saint Anselm College and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics executive director, believes Leavitt is “uniquely qualified” for the role. Levesque, who worked closely with Leavitt during her college years, commended her ability to offer “razor-sharp answers” while maintaining an optimistic and friendly demeanor—qualities he believes will serve her well in the demanding press secretary position.

Leavitt’s nomination suggests a shift in the White House Press Office, where she will need to reconcile Trump’s unconventional style with the demands of an increasingly critical press corps. Her youthful enthusiasm, political experience, and media savvy equip her to play a key role in shaping the White House’s communications strategy as she assumes this significant post.
