Mayor Eric Adams recently inaugurated 24 new school buildings across New York City ahead of the 2024-2025 school year. These facilities will add over 11,000 seats, the most in two decades, designed to accommodate the growing student population. “Our administration is committed to giving our children a first-class education,” said Adams. “These schools will play a crucial role in fostering a sense of well-being for our children and building a more livable city.”

Chancellor David Banks echoed this sentiment, noting, “School buildings are the physical representation of the investment we make in our children. These 11,000 new seats will create more space for bright starts and bold futures.” The new buildings are part of an ongoing capital plan to further expand educational infrastructure, including an additional 33,417 seats in future years.

State Senator Jamaal Bailey praised the initiative: “As a father, I understand our responsibility to provide our youth with the resources they need. The opening of these new schools is a significant step toward ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.”

Assembly member Landon C. Dais reflected on the lasting legacy of education, adding, “We need to continue to invest in our children to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed.” He celebrated the dedication of a new school In his district named after former Assembly member Aurelia Greene, emphasizing its role in uplifting students.

Councilmember Rafael Salamanca, Jr., highlighted the need to address overcrowding in the South Bronx: “With class sizes affecting the work of our educators, this new school will serve as a beacon for countless generations, ensuring that Bronx youth will no longer be left behind.”

These new facilities, spread across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens, feature modern amenities such as science labs, music rooms, and community spaces designed to enhance the learning environment for students and teachers alike.
