Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Trial on Sex Trafficking Charges Set for May 2025

A New York judge set May 5, 2025, as the trial date for hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing serious federal charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and conspiracy. The charges stem from allegations that Combs abused multiple women over several years, often aided by associates who helped silence victims through blackmail and violence. Combs has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody, having twice been denied bail.

During the hearing, Combs’ defense team requested an evidentiary hearing, accusing federal agents of leaking critical evidence, including a 2016 video showing Combs allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura. The video, which aired on CNN earlier this year, prompted Combs to issue a public apology. However, defense attorneys argue that the leak has prejudiced potential jurors and tainted the grand jury’s proceedings.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson, representing the prosecution, refuted the defense’s claims, stating that no leaks originated from the prosecution team. She added that the defense’s argument was merely an attempt to exclude damaging evidence. Despite the defense’s push for a gag order, the judge deferred making a ruling and said he would consider measures to ensure a fair trial.

The case against Combs is significant, as it involves accusations of orchestrating and recording coerced sex acts at gatherings known as “freak offs.” Prosecutors estimate that the trial could take up to three weeks, and they continue to investigate, with the possibility of filing a superseding indictment. The government has already seized over 96 electronic devices from Combs’ homes in Los Angeles and Miami, as well as from an airport in Miami.

Combs, who faces life in prison if convicted, appeared composed in court, waving to his family members, including his mother and children, who attended the hearing. His legal team has expressed confidence in his defense, stating that he will vigorously fight the charges.

As the trial date approaches, the case continues to draw attention, with Combs maintaining his innocence and preparing for a lengthy legal battle.
